Ms. Lynn Porter Ruiz of Lebanon was pronounced deceased at 11:45 p.m. Monday evening January 4, 2016 at the age of 52 following being trapped in her burning home on W. Forrest Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene from smoke inhalation.
The family pastor, Bro. Brian Goodman of the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church in Rock City, conducted the 1 p.m. Friday afternoon January 6th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Born Roberta Lynn Porter in Carthage on June 29, 1964, she was one of three children of Mary Ruth Porter of the Rome Community and the late Ira Elonzo Porter who died at the age of 66 on February 9, 2007.
Ms. Ruiz was a non-denominational Christian and as a child attended the Carthage Free Holiness Church with her family.
She had been employed with the Famous Footwear Distribution Center in Lebanon for over ten years.
She was a 1983 graduate of Smith County High School.
Surviving in addition to her mother is a daughter, Raven Maggart of Brush Creek; sister, Hanna Young and husband Jimmy of the Pea Ridge Community; two brothers, Gene Porter and wife Vera Henley Porter of Dickson, Charles Porter and wife Connie Newberry Porter of Red Boiling Springs; five grandchildren, Lauren Mungle, Kirsten Felice, Michael Maggart, Madison Jacobs and Brooklyn Jacobs.
