Mrs. Lorene Dickerson Hiett of Carthage and a longtime resident of the Halls Hill Community died at the age of 88 on Tuesday morning August 20, 2019 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had made her home since May 24th of this year.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted by Bro. Breck Patterson on Thursday afternoon August 22nd. Burial followed beside her husband Billy in the Pickett Hiett Cemetery in the Halls Hill Community.
One of three children, she was born Sarah Lorene Dickerson in South Carthage and was the daughter of the late Will Joe Dickerson who died at the age of October 31, 1981 and Mary Lucille Harris Dickerson who died at the age of 88 on December 22, 2000.
Mrs. Hiett was also preceded in death by one of her two sisters, Margaret Jane Dickerson Sullins who died at the age of 68 on April 21, 2002.
She was united in marriage in the Hogans Creek Community on December 10, 1949 to Halls Hill Community native Billy Gene Hiett who preceded her in death on December 30, 1987 at the age of 55 suffering from cancer.
Together for many years Mr. and Mrs. Hiett owned and operated the former Stockyard Café at the former Smith County Fairgrounds on Carmack Avenue in Carthage.
Mrs. Hiett was a longtime employee of the former Carthage Shirt Corporation and retired from Genesco in Carthage.
She was a member of the Carthage Church of God in South Carthage.
Her only survivor is a sister and brother-in-law, Fay Dickerson Johnson and James of Hartsville.
